Special Olympics Colorado Fundraising Event

Hello, today I want to tell you about my fundraising attempt for Special Olympics teams in Colorado.

I hope you have 47 seconds to make a difference in someone’s life. Thanks!

If you are in a hurry, for your sake, let’s jump to the best part about what your donation does.

When you donate you will be 100% responsible for another person getting to become an athlete. This new athlete will get to enjoy:

  1. Physiological benefits of training and competing.
  2. The social aspect of sports and competition.
  3. Network and support of new friends, families, and coaches.
  4. The camaraderie and highs that come with that.
  5. Learn to deal with and overcome adversity within a controlled environment.
  6. AND anything else you can think of that we all feel when we get out on our bike or go for a hike or just hang out with friends, right?
Just a $1.00 donation (or more if you had a good week at work 🙂 and you can make this happen!

Don’t you want to help someone else enjoy these benefits?

Who am I?

My name is Shaun Martin. I am a volunteer for Special Olympics. That’s me on the left with Jeff, Ian, and Tim at the Colorado State Champs.

That was pre-COVID, hence buds in close quarters having fun.

I have been coaching athletes for a few years now and it is awesome being involved. The athletes are awesome. The parents are awesome. The other volunteers are awesome. Everyone is just super AWESOME!

I highly recommend being involved!

You can participate at many levels as a volunteer be sure to check it out. It is totally worth it!

How to Sponsor Me

There are many options. You can sponsor a flat fee (i.e donate $10 even if I don’t ride my bike) or pledge an amount per 1000 feet (motivate me to ride further!)

Here’s are some options.

Any extra questions or want to sponsor you can also contact me at: [email protected]

PLEDGE AN AMOUNT

Pledging an amount means for every 1000 feet climb you will donate X amount.

Who is the Ride-A-Thon For?

The money raised will be given to Special Olympics Colorado Teams. Some of it will come to the local teams here in Eagle County and some will go to other teams that also need help too.

Where, When, Why, How (in Brief) then the WHAT!

Where: I will ride my bike around eagle county mostly. Please understand some rides will be on the trainer using Zwift. I do ride outside in the cold but if roads are snow-covered and icy I will ride indoors.

When: March 2021 – all of March – like every day!

Why: Because the Athletes in Special Olympics are awesome. They get after it hard and this money will help athletes train, compete, go for gold, and have a whole bunch of FUN!

How: Hmmm, I will wake up, have some coffee, do some work, then put my cycling bibs, longs, top, jacket, helmet and shoes on and go out and ride my bike.

What is my Special Olympics Fundraising
Ride-A-Thon

special-olympics-ride-a-thon

Shall we jump right into the heart of it.

My Special Olympics Fundraising Ride-A-Thon is this.

I am going to ride my bike as much as I possibly can in the month of March.

I am going to ride up as many hills as I possibly can.

I will record every ride I do including how many feet of elevation I climb over the entire month.

I will post each ride online so you can see my progress

I am hoping you will sponsor me for every 1000 feet of climbing I complete.

For example, if I do 25,000 feet of climbing and you sponsored me $1.00 per 1000 feet then you will be donating $25.00

Sponsor me $10 for every 1000 feet and I climb 25,000 feet and your donation would be $250.00.

Of course, if you would like to DONATE NOW a set amount you can do that right now too!

I would be super grateful.

DONATE NOW VIA PAYPAL

The button is really small. I don’t know how to make it bigger sorry.

All donations are accepted through Paypal for trusted security.

If you have any questions about the Ride-A-Thon

    1. Go Shaun! And Go! all Special Olympics athletes around the world, especially all of you Eagle County athletes in Colorado. Feeling thankful for much – life, opportunities and friends who care. Kia kaha!

  1. Thank you for your love for Special Olympics! I made my donation in honor of my great nephew, Ethan Mcgee (Topeka, Kansas) who has CP and special needs. Keep up the great work you are doing with special needs individuals. Jenny Hejtmanek

  2. A truely good cause. Helping those who maybe otherwise unable to participate and by the looks of glee, have fun doing it. As a youngster I (and many others in my generation) did not have many opportunties to do ‘things’ like it is possible now. I would accept a ride anywhere almost. The special Olympics team are on a ride and definately not just ANY ride either.

Thanks for taking your time to organise this Shaun.
